State Secretary for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., for exchange on security and defence policy
Bern, 24.02.2026 — On 25 February 2026, talks will take place between the Swiss and US defence ministries in Washington, D.C. Markus Mäder, State Secretary for Security Policy, will lead the Swiss delegation. The exchange aims at discussing the security situation and bilateral cooperation. The focus will be on the security policy situation in Europe and current developments in transatlantic relations.
The security and defence policy dialogue will be led by Markus Mäder, State Secretary for Security Policy, accompanied by representatives of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). The US delegation will be headed by David A. Baker, Deputy Assistant Secretary of War, European & NATO Policy Office of the Under Secretary of War for Policy.
Exchange on security strategies
The talks will focus on the security situation in Europe, particularly regarding Russia and hybrid warfare. Furthermore, Switzerland's participation in the State Partnership Program and armaments cooperation will be discussed. The security policies of both countries and their implementation – in particular measures to strengthen defence capabilities – will also be on the agenda.
In addition, State Secretary Mäder will meet with Elbridge A. Colby, Under Secretary of War for Policy, and representatives of various think tanks working in the field of transatlantic security.
