Reporting indicators and policy markers for water
This section presents the different tools within SDC to monitor and report on water related activities.
Reference Indicators
Water related activities within SDC are monitored through the use of Aggregated Reference Indicators or ARIs. These are output indicators allowing to communicate on selected achievements across a wide range of contexts. The Thematic Reference Indicators or TRIs assess outcomes to which the SDC contributes. Together they constitute SDC's standardized monitoring indicators (the complete list of all SDC themes are available through the RDM Indicator browser – for internal SDC access and upon invitation as reporting partner).
These indicators should be used as much and as often as possible within projects and strategic programs, to allow an aggregation and consolidation of SDC achievements for thematic monitoring at the level of the institution.
The SDC management has approved a set of reference indicators to monitor the implementation of Switzerland’s International Cooperation Strategy 2025-28 (IC Strategy). Climate and environmental protection are one of the four overarching goals of the new international cooperation strategy which also includes the sustainable use of natural resources and therefore also covers water and food security. The actual indicators for water - WAT_ARIs & WAT_TRIs - are outlined in blue in the chart and presented below.
