News to read
- The newly published Thematic Integration Brief on Water Management Systems by RésEAU and the Climate, DRR & Environment Network offers practical advice on integrating climate, DRR and environment aspects into the management of water systems.
- The RésEAU Brief No. 7 on Safe water, sanitation and hygiene for better health presents solutions applied from the local to the global scale, from transforming individual practices to laws and policies and many more solutions to increase public health through safe WASH practices.
- The latest Trend Sheet No. 9 From data to decision: digital pathways in water governance has been recently published by the Trend Observatory on Water, discussing new solutions to managing water resources through digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).
- The Water Footprint Assessment of the Middle East published by the Blue Peace Middle East evaluates water use, efficiency, and allocation in the region, taking into account external water dependencies on third countries.
- Drawing from evidence of the report The Hidden Wealth of Nations: The Economics of Groundwater in Times of Climate Change, the World Bank launched a call for data contribution to develop a global benchmark for borehole longevity.
- The Issue-Based Coalition on Environment and Climate Change developed a review of UN-initiatives on water management in Central Asia and potential entry points with a summary of UN water activities in the region between 2019 and 2023.
- In the Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) 2024 water-related issues are brought forward in the form of poor services and weather extremes that affect the access to food across different regions in the world, for example in East Africa where 35.8 million people face high levels of acute food insecurity.
- The Water Insecurity Experiences (WISE) Scales User Manual is now out, and can be used to facilitate the implementation of the WISE Scales, as well as the analysis and presentation of the data generated.
- 21 January 2025 marked the launch of the official International Year of Glaciers Preservation, hosted by UNESCO, World Meteorological Organization and the Republic of Tajikistan. Read the related policy brief and mark your calendars to celebrate the first International Day for Glaciers on 21 March 2025.

- Short in-person course on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment at Project and Strategic Levels by the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education - applications to be submitted until 23 May 2025
