• The AGUASAN Community of Practice celebrates its 40th anniversary for which it released a 40th anniversary video highlighting its purpose and impact over the years and providing an outlook of its future.
• The 39th AGUASAN workshop report and the related AGUASAN workshop video detail the event’s case studies and key takeaways on the barriers and opportunities of providing sustainable WASH services in refugee-hosting contexts.
• The State of global water resources report 2024 published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) provides a comprehensive quantitative overview of global water resources, with a focus on hydrological variability and trends.
• The news article Dialogue for a sustainable future: Shared heritage of Hur al-Azim wetland published by the Iraqi News Agency details the current challenges of the Hur al-Azim Wetland shared among Iran and Iraq and the current dialogue between the nations, facilitated by the Blue Peace Middle East Initiative supported by the SDC.
• The online magazine Sandec News 2025 informs about the activities of the Department of Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development, at the Swiss Federal Water Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, highlighting for example the recently published Compendium on solid waste management, supported by the SDC or looking at “Recent developments in climate resilient WASH planning and financing”.

Opportunities to apply for

• 2 September – 4 December 2026 – Call for submission of inputs from stakeholders to inform the concept papers for the six interactive dialogues of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference – call open until 17 October 2025
• 3 November - 19 December 2025 – Short course in legal protection of water in armed conflicts, hosted by the Geneva Water Hub and the International Institute of Humanitarian Law of the University of Geneva – apply by 20 October 2025.
